Why Core Spring Design?

Amanda Cornelius and dogs

If you’ve stumbled across Core Spring Design via Facebook or Twitter and are wondering what exactly Core Spring Design is all about, here’s a bit of background on who Core Spring Design is and what sets me apart from the other graphic designers out there.

Who I am

I’m Amanda Cornelius, a freelance graphic designer living in Indianapolis. When I’m not designing, you’ll probably find me baking, reading, or spending time with my family, which includes my husband, one-year-old son, and two dogs. I enjoy spending time outside and love that freelancing gives me the freedom to be able to go on a walk in the middle of the day. If you’re a fan of the Myers-Briggs indicator, I’m an ISTJ, which means I’m faithful, logical, organized, sensible, and earnest. As a logically minded and also artistic person, graphic design is a good fit for me.

I decided to become a graphic designer when I was 15, and seven years later I received my Bachelor’s of Fine Arts specializing in visual communication. I spent four years learning about the elements and principles of design as well as practicing them. After graduation, I went on to work as a graphic designer for a global manufacturing company for four years before I began pursuing freelance full-time.

While there are some good self-taught designers out there, I bring up my background to emphasize that I’m pretty serious about this graphic design thing. It’s not just a phase I’m going through, like when I was four years old and wanted to be a Bob Evans waitress when I grew up. If you hire me to design your logo and need further branding design down the road, you don’t need to worry that I’ve given up graphic design to become, say, a professional athlete.

What I do

I take the core of your project and find ways to express that visually. What’s the mission of your small business? What do you want people to get out of reading your book? When someone looks at your logo or book cover, I want your audience to see those things at first glance.

Although I work with a variety of clients, I consider my specialty to be working with other women who have made the leap to full-time freelancing or starting their own business. Being a work-at-home mom has been a good solution for me for this stage of life, and I want to help other women be able to choose that option as well.

If you’re a small business just starting out or just need a refresh, I will help you make a great first impression with a professionally designed logo. Logo design is one of my true passions. I will take the time to learn more about your business or blog, including your history and values. I can create your Facebook header image, business cards, and whatever else you need to promote your business.

If you’re an author, I will help you with all your book design needs. I design covers for printed books and ebooks as well as the interior pages of printed books. I will want to learn more about your book and the target audience and read at least a chapter or two. I look at the covers of other books on the subject to make sure the cover I design fits the genre but is unique enough to stand out. I format books for the file types you need, including CreateSpace, Kindle, epub, and pdf.

I also work with small businesses and other organizations on projects including print ads, brochures, editing photos, creating diagrams, and whatever other design needs you may have. It can be just a one time project or I can work with you on an ongoing basis. If you aren’t ready to hire a full-time graphic designer but want to work with one person who can get to know you and your industry, I’d love to talk to you.

If you think Core Spring Design would be a good fit for your graphic design needs or have a question, send me a message or leave your questions in the comments.
